Prentiss County Sportsman’s Club

Originally incorporated in 1965 by a group of men who wanted a place for friends and families to enjoy fellowship in shooting sports and other outdoor pursuits, the club was a favorite gathering place for place for over 20 years for social gatherings and shooting events.

In 2018, the remaining members of the club entrusted Square1 Outdoors to continue the legacy that began over 50 years earlier and ensure that the club’s original purpose would continue to serve the community.  Today, a new generation is learning about and experiencing our shooting sports and outdoors heritage thanks to the endeavors of those founders and others who followed.

Our volunteers and supporters are continuing to develop the property which serves as a local base for outdoor education and recreational activities. The club provides a venue for a number of youth and family activities.

  • Hunter & Boater Education
  • Water Safety & Small Craft Safety – Canoeing/Kayaking
  • Archery – Target and 3D
  • Indoor Air Rifle, Air Pistol, and BB Gun
  • Rimfire Rifle Shooting
  • Shotgun Sports
  • Environmental Science

The Sportsman’s Club, in cooperation with Prentiss County Youth Outdoors, hosts a club-based MSYESS shotgun team that competes throughout the area.  MSYESS is part of the nationally recognized USAYESS and membership is open to youths of all ages and includes collegiate athletes, as well.  MSYESS provides insurance for each athlete and creates opportunities for shooting and fundraising.

The shotgun team competes in the Mississippi Scholastic Shooting Program, which is coordinated through the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks for youth in grades 7-12 in public or private schools and home-school youth.  Additionally, some team members participate in AIM, SCTP, and other national youth shotgun shooting programs.  There are no fees for general participation other than individual costs for shotgun ammunition.  Our club provides guns for those youth who may not have one and we provide coaches, target throwers, and targets.
